| 内容简介（英文） | Painting of a Woman Ku Lo (b. 1763) Ch’ing Dynasty Ku Lo (style name Yu-men, sobriquet His-mei) was a native of Hangchou, Chekiang province. His calligraphy was strong and full, possessing an antique air. He was skilled in painting figures, landscapes, flowers, and birds, and he was able to convey a sense of vitality in his paintings. He was especially adept at painting female figures. In this scroll, a woman carrying a hoe walks slowly on a bridge. A watery expanse punctuated by branches of a weeping willow and a spit of land forms the background. This is a common figure type of the Ch’ing dynasty, and the brushwork in the composition is detailed and meticulous. This painting was donated to the Museum by General Ho Ying-ch’in. |
