| 内容简介(英文) | Huang Yue, a native of Dangtu in Anhui, served the courts of the Qianlong, Jiaqing, and Daoguang Emperors. In the Jiaqing reign, he was a chief reader for the Gem Forest of the Secret Halls and Treasure Chests of the Stone Moats, Volume III catalogues of the imperial art collections as well as chief officer of Hall of Complete Tang Literature. He also excelled at landscape painting, achieving the spirit of Xiao Yuncong’s manner. In his later years he specialized in studying the style of Wang Yuanqi, his brushwork becoming even more hoary and expansive. This painting depicts a studio nestled in a garden setting with the front gate opening onto a large yard. Inside is a man sitting on the floor of the building filled with stacks of scrolls and books. In front is a strong, luxuriant tree with a string of mountains in the distance. The inscription by the artist at the right reads, “Picture of the Mianke Hall,” the idea for which came from a line in Tao Yuanming’s Homecoming: “Seeing the trees in the courtyard brings joy to my face.” The artist then added a poem of his own that reads, “The colors of Mt. Xiejia are suspended before the building; In the courtyard is a tall tree planted in some year unknown. Mr. Shuyu chants lofty verse by himself, books all stacked inside filled with notes.” The work has an aura of reclusion in the mountains, the person having closed his door to study. This work was done in 1799. Mr. Li Shih-tseng donated this painting to the National Palace Museum in 1983. (20110204) |
