| 内容简介（英文） | Tiger Chang Shan-tzu (1882-1940) Republican Period Chang Shan-tzu, a native of Szechwan, was the older brother of the famous painter Chang Dai-chien. He specialized in landscapes, flowers, and animals. However, he was probably best known for his tiger paintings. Though his brother was more famous, Chang Shan-tzu was just as gifted as an artist. From a rocky cliff emerges a streaming torrent as a ferocious tiger stands alone roaring into the void. The artist was known to have lived in Soochow near Wang-shih Park, where he raised tiger cubs. He was thus able to observe their every movement and behavior, recording them in his paintings. His depictions of tigers thus capture their essence. This work was donated to the National Palace Museum by Mr. Chi Hsing-fu. |
